  • Applications

The U.2-FPGA "Neo" is a high-performance ultra-high definition programmable frame grabber module for any system that requires video capture without redesigning the architecture of the system. This passively-cooled (via conduction) module is a removable U.2 (2.5-in disk drive with PCIe interface) form factor with HD-SDI/3G-SDI), HD Video and NTSC video input options. This small form factor module can be mounted virtually anywhere that supports 16mm NVMe SSDs. Applications include video processing for turrets from FLIR, Controp, L3-Wescam; sensor-to-shooter; counter/interdiction; and C4ISR. The HD-SDI/3G-SDI variant can support KLV metadata processing per STANAG 4609. It can also be used in industrial and commercial platforms. The U.2-FPGA is fully compliant to MIL-STD-810G, MIL-S-901D, DO-160D, MIL-STD-461E and has ingress protection up to IP64.
  • Description

The U.2-FPGA "Neo" is a high-performance ultra-high definition programmable frame grabber module for any system that requires video capture without redesigning the architecture of the system. "Neo" is a rugged, add-in U.2-sized (2.5-in disk drive with PCIe interface) ultra-high definition programmable frame grabber module with HD-SDI/3G-SDI, HD Video and NTSC video input options. It is designed to provide the greatest video capture density and highest input resolution possible in a fully ruggedized, passively conduction-cooled and sealed system, operating from -20° C to +75° C. This system architecture simplifies deployable MIL-SPEC technology by offering multiple variants of frame grabbers from 8 channel composite video to 4 channel HD-SDI/3G-SDI at 4K60Hz. The U.2-FPGA supports a standard NVMe SSD PCIe x4 interface, bringing frame grabber capability to host systems with NVMe SSD slots or interfaces.

There are three standard types of U.2-FPGA modules: 1) v1 offers up quad HD-SDI/3G-SDI input or one 4K60Hz input with time sync, 2) v2 offers 2-Ch. HD Video 2.0 input and 3) v3 up to 8-Ch. composite video (NTSC/PAL/RS-170) inputs.

    Version 1
U.2-SDI provides up to 4 independent SDI input channels with support for 1080p60Hz or 4K60Hz/4K30Hz resolution. Neo also supports SMPTE 259M, 424M, 372M and can also support SMPTE 291 ancillary data per customer specification, however HD audio is embedded (5.1 channels). In addition, per MISB standards, Neo provides side-band channel support for KLV metadata (STANAG 4609) for handling data channels such as camera angle, location (longitude and latitude), zoom magnification, and so on. The customer control panel provided allows for customer configuration per stream for frame rate, resolution, bit rate control de-interlace, down-scale and more. This frame grabber module is ideal for applications where the encoding software is the primary product of the customer and hardware is required to support the encode/decode of the data packets. The data packets are delivered to the host CPU via x4 PCIe Gen 3 lanes for very low latency frame processing. Once processed by the CPU, data can then be stored on local storage devices or delivered over IP networks to ancillary devices.

    Version 2
U.2-HD Video provides two independent HD Video 2.0 inputs (resolutions from 640x480 to 1920x1080 and 3840x2160 at 60Hz) with support for embedded audio (5.1 channels). The GUI provided allows for customer configuration per stream for frame rate, resolution, bit rate control de-interlace, down-scale and more. This frame grabber module is ideal for applications where the encoding software is the primary product of the customer and hardware is required to support the data packets encode/decode. The data packets are delivered to the host CPU via x4 PCIe Gen 3 lanes for very low latency frame processing. Once processed by the CPU, data can then be stored on local storage devices or delivered over IP networks to ancillary devices.

    Version 3
U.2-NTSC provides up to 8 composite NTSC/PAL/RS-170 input channels (resolutions from 640x480@50/60Hz to 1280x720@50/60Hz). The control panel provided allows for customer configuration per stream for contrast, saturation, hue, brightness, sharpness, gamma, noise suppression and more.
